Offline-first: why your till must keep selling
Internet down, till dead? Not with runmyhub. Why offline-first is essential for real businesses — and how it works.
It’s Saturday lunchtime, the queue is long — and the Wi-Fi drops. With many POS systems that means a standstill: no sales, no receipts, frustrated guests. This is exactly where good POS software separates from bad.
The network is never guaranteed
Mobile internet fluctuates, routers freeze, providers have outages. In a real business this happens regularly — usually at the worst possible moment. A till that requires a stable connection is a risk to your revenue.
What “offline-first” really means
runmyhub runs on the device from a local database. The app always reads and writes locally first — the network is only there for synchronisation, not for the sale. In practice that means:
- Sales, receipts and refunds keep working without a connection.
- When the network returns, everything syncs automatically — reliably and without duplicate entries.
- Payments are buffered (store-and-forward) and submitted later.
Reliable, not “hopefully”
The sync is content-addressed: runmyhub compares checksums instead of blindly transferring records. So there’s no silent drift — what’s on the device matches the cloud as soon as the connection is back. If something fails, the sync heals itself.
The result
You keep selling — in the rush, in a basement with no signal, at a market stall. Offline-first isn’t a nice-to-have; it’s the foundation that makes your till work when it matters most.
